VUI Challenge #71

  • Reserve a table at a local restaurant

  • Answer related queries

  • Showcase intent switching and returning to main task

Intents for reserving a table, as well as other related queries such as accessibility, free-from menu options, parking and wine list.

IVR and VA designs managed in the same project, with ability to branch where needed.

IVR requires the ability to repeat information such as URLs, whereas VA does not.

Reservation intent with entity annotations for: date, time, number of guests.

Multislot flow for reserving a table allows users to provide any amount of information upfront as part of their intent utterance, and for the system to follow up for anything that’s missing.

VUI Challenge #16

  • Log when a plant is watered

  • Set up reminders to water specific plants

  • Ask when a plant was last watered

  • (Add a plant to the managed list)

  • (Create a multimodal interaction with on-screen text and TTS audio)

Intents prompted for in the challenge, plus own idea of adding a plant to the managed list.

For multi-modal interactions, display text and TTS are complementary: text is detailed, and audio is conversational.

Integration with mock APIs to dynamically retrieve plant information.

MockLab stub to return dynamic information for each plant.

Reminder intent with entity annotations for the plant name and the reminder date. Pronoun references allow for intelligent resolution of the last plant discussed in the session.

Multislot flow for scheduling a reminder alows users to provide any amount of information upfront as part of their intent utterance, and for the system to follow up for anything that’s missing.

Multislot flow for Adding Plants intent.

Typeface assistant

  • Whimsical assistant using interactivity and natural language to guide users towards typeface recommendations for projects

  • Inspired by Julian Hansen’s project So you need a typeface:

Supports 4 types of projects, and a More Info intent for social queries for the assistant to talk about self.

Whimsical responses to “tell me about yourself”-type queries.

Clickable links in responses allow users to directly preview the typeface on Google Fonts, and download the font family for free.

Business card intent with style annotations.

Similar to Julian Hansen’s flow, for each project the assistant asks a series of questions to narrow down the most appropriate font for the user and the project.

Interactive buttons allows users to click on pre-defined options in addition to natural-language responses.
